We pursue sustainability through innovation.

We are a young company – but we don’t take shortcuts. We design durable, modular, reusable systems so that when you switch to Cadence, your footprint gets smaller over time. When design and innovation meet a conscious lifestyle, large-scale change can happen.

Single-use is behind us.

The waste that results from single-use industries, especially the portable personal care world, has largely been ignored. In our lifetime, roughly 9 billion single-use plastic travel bottles and 6 billion silicone travel bottles will end up on beaches. Our goal is to make a dent in that number through thoughtful innovation.

This is where design fights waste.

Quality + personalization = less waste

Quality is a word that gets tossed around a lot. At Cadence, we believe that quality is synonymous with integrity, meaning that everything we create should bring you peace of mind knowing they will last a lifetime.

Personalization is two-fold. It means that we design around you and your needs so that you never have to compromise your lifestyle, routine, or the environment when making the more sustainable choice. It's also the ability to customize, and build a flexible, modular system, so that it can expand and change with you – eliminating the need to toss or replace it.

Cleaning up beaches

Currently, 80% of plastic on the beaches ends up in the ocean. Now, some of it ends up in your Capsules. Our partner, Envision Plastics, collects plastic from beaches around the world by employing local communities – our recent batch of material was collected from the Yucatan and Baja Peninsulas. The ocean-bound plastic then gets processed in California and North Carolina, and currently makes up 20% of a finished Capsule.

Reusing leftover material

Manufacturing can leave leftover “scrap” material that typically gets thrown away. We’re reusing our own scrap by re-grinding it and re-integrating it into our material mix. All of this reprocessed material makes up an additional 30% of a finished Capsule.

Keeping packaging circular

Every single component of our packaging can be placed in the recycling bin. Our box is made from 100% recyclable cardboard, our shipping labels are compostable and recyclable, and our seed paper is plantable (and grows wildflowers). If you have nowhere to plant it, it can go in the recycling bin, too.

Donate to World Bicycle Relief and help empower entire communities with bikes

World Bicycle Relief provides purpose-built Buffalo Bicycles to people in rural regions across the globe who often have to walk long distances to accomplish everyday tasks. Since 2005, Buffalo Bicycles have helped kids get to school, health workers to patients, farmers to market, and more.

When you donate a bicycle ($165) or any amount to World Bicycle Relief, you’re helping under-resourced communities get the tools they need to conquer the challenge of distance and thrive.

Trek’s carbon reduction commitment

We’ve committed to ambitious near-term emissions reductions targets. Our commitment is company-wide and in line with Science Based Target Initiatives (SBTi). We plan to finish our goal-validation process with SBTi by the end of 2023.

How we’re changing the business of bikes

Renewable energy

Trek’s headquarters and US manufacturing is powered entirely by renewable energy through validated Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). By 2030, we’ll be purchasing and retiring RECs for each of Trek’s owned facilities globally.

Reducing plastic packaging waste

We’ve redesigned our bike and aftermarket packaging to dramatically reduce single-use plastics. Since 2020, our new designs have helped us avoid the use of approximately 532,422 lbs. of plastic packaging waste annually.

Threading lightly

Trek road and mountain apparel contains fabrics made from recycled bottles or textile waste, which has helped divert 54,945 lbs. of material from landfills.

Building a world of change

We believe bikes can make a world of difference, so we partner with many organizations that use bikes as a force for good for our planet and people. Through our support of PeopleForBikes, World Bicycle Relief, NICA, and others, we're advocating for meaningful change around the world.

The Trek Foundation

The Trek Foundation protects land, develops trail systems for public use, and provides more riders access to great places to ride. This program has funded trails in seven locations, and we’re just getting started.

Recycled plastics

We’re continuing to find many new opportunities to use recycled plastics on bikes and gear. Today, 38 of our products — including bottle cages, grip cores, textiles, and helmets — contain a percentage of recycled plastics.

Sharing the love

In 2022, nearly 14 million miles were ridden by BCycle users! Putting bike share systems where people need them is helping more riders choose the fun and convenience of riding over other more harmful modes of transportation.

CamelBak's Sustainability Mission

We are passionate about protecting the planet. From making sustainable choices to partnering with organizations advocating for the environment and our communities—we believe every opportunity makes a difference.

Climate Action

We believe climate change is the most pressing environmental issue globally, requiring commitment to meaningful change and measurable emissions reductions goals. We're focusing on how we directly impact the environment, as well as the areas where we can drive positive, systemic change.

Getting Circular

We need to think much bigger if we're going to tackle big issues like climate change, waste and pollution. We can help create a better future as we rethink how we design, manufacture, and even use our products—all in the effort to create less waste. In the end, true circularity, to us, is not creating waste in the first place.

Friendly Materials

Our #1 goal is to make the best products possible, for our consumers, families, and the environment. As long as we're around, we'll keep making products with the planet in mind, without sacrificing quality, durability, and performance.
